Friends Africa provides Capacity Building and Education services to the African grassroots communities and civil society to realize a more sufficient, and efficient African society in the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
Friends Africa builds the capacities of African NGOs, private sector and other interested organizations in the fight by sharing and disseminating the output of our various research and documentation projects, as well as supporting workplace policies and programs for HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
The distribution network of our documents and publications include: Donors, Governments, Recipient Countries, The Global Fund, International and African private sector, and Civil Society.
Capacity Building and Education by Friends Africa will result in promoting a better understanding of The Global Fund’s mechanism in Africa, building stronger partnerships with its constituents and creating an environment that will encourage greater collaboration with the Global Fund and further optimize the performance of Global Fund grants.
Some of Friends Africa’s activities in this area include the following:
• Grassroots NGO Capacity Building Seminar, 2009: This activity involved 60 selected Grassroots NGOs from 26 African Countries in a three day Capacity Building Seminar covering Proposal Development, Fund raising, Project Management, Proposal Development, Monitoring and Evaluation, Procurement, and Financial Management. Session trainers and panelists were from the private sector, public sector, civil society and the Global Fund.• Workplace Policy Project 2009: is a partnership between Friends Africa, NIBUCCA (Nigerian Business Coalition Against AIDS) and various Nigerian state governments to present a number of seminars throughout the country; with a goal to see the Nigerian private sector and governments more open to and in fact more aware of the possibilities to develop policies for HIV/AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis within the work force.
• Databases Project NGOs, Private Sector, and Government 2007-2009: The purpose of this project is to build a large comprehensive file of organizations involved in or interested in the fight against the three pandemics and constantly supply them with information which will aid for more effective work in these areas for the different sectors.
• Sub-granting to African organizations 2008, 2009: Friends Africa provided sub-granting to NGOs who have submitted proposals for credible projects in HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
• Friends Africa also has internship opportunities in Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Fund-raising and Project Development. Interested interns can send their CVs and Cover letters to internships@friends-africa.org. Applications are accepted on a roll-in basis.
