JOB DESCRIPTION OF FRIENDS AFRICA REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES.
Job summary

Represent the organization in his or her region, create a strong regional presence for Friends Africa, and build relationships with, and serve as an organizational focal point for the donor community, foundations, and corporations active in the region. She/he will form connections for collaboration with local, national, and regional partners, and with key professionals; manage and help coordinate national and regional Friends Africa programs; and represent Friends Africa at professional and other meetings in the region.

Specific Duties

  • To be responsible for the overall management and supervision of all Friends Africa cooperative programs within their region.
  • To promote, implement and uphold the key elements (vision, mission, core values and objectives) of the strategic plan and other approved documents for the region.
  • To undertake detailed assessments of local conditions for the development of new program concepts and strategic directions to meet needs in the areas of emergency relief, rehabilitation and development and donor preferences.
  • To develop capacity within the region to respond to requests from Friends Africa.
  • To promote and facilitate the establishment and strengthening of national and regional networks relevant to the strategy for the region. To foster and maintain good coordination and collaboration with international and bilateral co-operating and co-financing partners to negotiate and formulate agreements, contracts and projects..
  • To carry out policy liaison with the relevant Ministries and authorities in the region.
  •  To submit narrative and financial reports on a regular basis to partners as appropriate.
  • To prepare printed annual reports on the Friends Africa programs in the region.
  • To convene and conduct the meetings of the Friends Africa Regional Management Team.
  • To build relationships with, and serve as an organizational focal point for the donor community, foundations, and corporations active in the region. She/he will build connections for collaboration with local, national, and regional partners, and with key professionals
  • Communicate the issues, concerns and questions that may arise.

Education/Skills:

  • The Regional Representatives shall have the following qualifications and experience:
  • Degree in development science or a related field.
  • Extensive experience implementing programs focused on civil society and community based empowerment approaches. At least 10 years experience required with complex emergencies and management of large scale operations, preferably at the level of CEO/ Country representative.
  •  Broad and deep working experience in the context of Africa .
  • Ability to facilitate development processes in highly polarized societies.
  • Knowledge of GFATM country programs, guiding principles and strategies.
  • Fluency in English
  • Experience in a broad range of development, rehabilitation and emergency response projects and understanding the link between relief, development and advocacy.
  • Inter-cultural sensitivity and experience and ability and to apply these in diverse and complex settings.
  • Solid understanding and experience with rights-based projects and programs.
  •  Knowledge of facilitation and mediation methodologies between civil society organizations and their governments.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills with an ability to interact with UN, NGO, media, religious leaders, and government officials on local and national levels of the region
  • Strategic and organizational planning.
  • Have proven fundraising abilities.
  • Networking with international and national development partners.
  • Knowledge of donor practices, the program proposal process, and humanitarian or development program solicitations and applications.
  • Be familiar with integrated development strategies and development-funding mechanisms, and have comprehensive knowledge of transition activities.
  • Familiarity with regulations and procedures of international organizations.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of field experience in humanitarian relief and/or development programs focused on community empowerment, facilitation and mediation, advocacy and networking approaches, and integrated rural development.
