Friends of the
Global Fund Africa (Friends Africa) in recognition of this years
World Malaria Day with the release of a report titled:
Ethiopia-Turning the Tide against Malaria with the Global Fund.
This
unique advocacy report highlights Africa’s second most populous
nation and the great strides it has made in reducing its Malaria
with financial support from the Global Fund to fight AIDS,
Tuberculosis and Malaria since 2003. It also shows that Malaria
can be eradicated in sub-Saharan Africa in the near future if
countries scale up their efforts and learn from the success
factors in other African countries. World Malaria Day 2008
represents a day where a disease without borders is commemorated
globally to provide effective control of Malaria around the
world. Friends Africa with its report on Ethiopia’s successes in
the fight against Malaria with the Global Fund is letting the
world know that the solutions to eradicating Malaria also do not
have borders. Pivotal factors for Africa countries battling with
the Malaria epidemic include but are not limited to massive
scale up of procurement and effective distribution of
long-lasting insecticide treated bed nets (LLINs) and
Artemisinin Based Combination Therapy medicines (ACTs). Support
from Governments and in country development partners
implementing malaria programs in Africa also plays an important
role in enhancing the impact made by Global Fund grants in
Africa.
